You've tried everything for your sleep. Come and learn how sleep works.

Five days in Ubud with sleep specialist Kate Blyth, integrative wellbeing practitioner Stephanie Hoo, and Chibs Okereke from the Calm app, whose sleep meditations are among the most popular on YouTube.

If you've tried the usual sleep advice and still find yourself struggling with your sleep, the answer may not be another tip, supplement or hack. Sleep can become stuck for a number of different reasons, and understanding what is maintaining the problem is an important part of changing it.

RETURN TO SLEEP is a five-day immersive retreat designed to help you understand your sleep, reconnect with your natural rhythms and create space for deep restoration. Led by three practitioners with complementary areas of expertise, the retreat brings together sleep science, mindfulness and stress management, movement, nourishment and restorative practices.

Science and tradition, side by side

Most sleep retreats choose a side. Some give you the research and a slide deck. Others give you a beautiful week of rest that fades a fortnight after you get home.

We've built this one to do both. The science explains why your sleep is stuck and which levers will shift it. The practices, some of them centuries old, give your body the felt experience of coming down: Qigong at sunrise, yoga nidra in the afternoon, Himalayan singing bowls in the evening, a Balinese water blessing under a full moon. Understanding changes what you do. Experience changes what your body believes is possible. You need both, and you take both home.

When Your Sleep Changes with You

If you’re navigating perimenopause or menopause, you may find that sleep feels different from what it once was — more interrupted nights, a mind that won’t settle, or mornings when you feel far from refreshed.

This retreat offers space to feel understood and explore the patterns influencing your rest. Through practical sleep education, stress management, gentle movement and restorative practices, you’ll discover ways to care for yourself through this transition, with greater understanding and compassion for your changing needs.

Who this retreat is for:

This retreat may resonate with you if:

  • You feel tired yet find it difficult to switch off.

  • Your sleep has become unpredictable, frustrating or a source of worry.

  • You want to understand the science behind sleep and how to apply it.

  • You’re navigating perimenopause or menopause and want to better understand your changing sleep, with practical guidance and space to restore.

  • You’re carrying sustained stress and would welcome time to reconnect with yourself.

  • You enjoy learning through both conversation and experience.

  • You want practical ideas you can take into everyday life.

You don’t need previous experience in Qigong, meditation or yoga. Come with curiosity and a willingness to explore.

What you can take home

Our intention is for you to leave with:

  • A clearer understanding of how sleep works and what may influence your own patterns.

  • Greater awareness of the connection between stress, daily rhythms and rest.

  • First-hand experience of movement, meditation and evening practices.

  • Practical ideas to explore at home, chosen for their relevance to your life.

  • The encouragement of having learned and shared the experience with others.

You are invited to discover what is useful, build on it gradually, and bring more care to the way you rest and live.

Three perspectives. One connected experience.

Sleep is influenced by what happens throughout the day: our rhythms, habits, thoughts, movement and responses to stress.

This retreat brings together three practitioners whose expertise explores these different parts of the same picture. Together, your facilitators offer a connected programme of understanding, practice and reflection, with tools you can continue exploring at home.

The sessions are woven together, not run side by side. You'll find Chibs guiding a meditation at the end of Kate's yoga class, Stephanie's singing bowls under one of Chibs' evening sessions, and Kate's circadian science shaping when we eat, move and rest.

The intention is not to give you another set of rules to follow, but to help you understand your own biology and leave with practical tools that continue to be useful long after you return home. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all formula, you'll learn how to recognise the factors that matter most for your own sleep and how to apply these principles in a way that fits your life.

Understand your sleep | with Kate

Through three immersive sleep sessions, Kate will take you beyond generic sleep hygiene advice to explore how sleep is actually regulated, what may be keeping it disrupted, and which biological and behavioural levers you can work with in everyday life. You'll learn how to support your body clock, build healthy sleep drive, reduce the factors that keep you alert at night, and develop a more confident and sustainable relationship with sleep.

Explore the practice of rest | with Chibs

Alongside the sleep workshops, Chibs works on the other half of the problem: a body that has forgotten how to come down. Plenty of us have taken the holiday, slept badly in a beautiful room, and come home more confused than before. The pressure went away, and the body stayed switched on, because winding down is a skill, and most of us were never taught it. Across the five days, Chibs teaches that skill in a two-hour stress and burnout workshop and in daily yoga nidra and guided deep rest meditations.

Bring it into daily life | with Stephanie

Stephanie helps you put that understanding into practice through the body and the senses. Each morning begins with Qigong, using gentle movement and breath to notice how you feel and ease into the day. She leads sound healing with Himalayan singing bowls, teaches simple acupressure and an evening Qigong sequence, and guides you through blending your own aromatherapy oil. Drawing on her background in lifestyle medicine and integrative nutrition, Stephanie has also shaped the food, the setting and the rhythm of the days, so what you learn is woven into how you spend your time here.

What sets this retreat apart

Clinically grounded

Sleep specialist Kate Blyth brings behavioural sleep science, CBT-I principles and circadian expertise into the retreat, offering evidence-based tools that target the biological and behavioural systems involved in sleep. The programme goes beyond surface-level "sleep hygiene" and is grounded in an understanding of how sleep is actually regulated.

Cuts through the noise

There is a lot of noise around sleep at the moment, and it can be hard to know what to trust. These sessions offer something more fundamental: an understanding of how sleep is actually regulated in the body, what can keep poor sleep going, and how to support it through what you do each day.

Benefits that extend long beyond the retreat

This is not about band-aid fixes that work while you are here and quietly fade once you are home. The aim is to leave you understanding how sleep works, with lifelong levers you can keep using to support your sleep, nervous system and circadian health long after the retreat. The real value comes from being able to take that understanding and apply it to everyday life.

Three disciplines, one programme

A sleep specialist, a meditation teacher and burnout expert, and an integrative wellbeing practitioner trained in Qigong, clinical aromatherapy and sound healing, planning every session together. You could find any one of us on our own. You won't find this combination anywhere else.

What You'll Experience

Evidence-based sleep foundations, with Kate

Learn the key fundamentals for healthy sleep. A series of three immersive sessions that translate the latest sleep science into practical, high-impact strategies, equipping you with a lifelong sleep toolkit. If your sleep has changed with perimenopause or menopause, the same principles apply, and Kate is happy to take your questions in the group Q&A.

1. The Mind & Sleep Connection

Sleep is shaped by mindset and beliefs. This session explores how stress, beliefs and the nervous system affect sleep, and how to cultivate a healthy relationship with sleep, which is the layer everything else is built on.

2: Sleep Fundamentals, Harnessing the Body's Sleep Systems

Explore the two core biological systems that regulate sleep, empowering you to understand how sleep truly works and what key levers you can use to improve it.

3: Unlocking the Power of the Circadian Rhythm

Explore how your body clock shapes sleep, energy and wellbeing, and how light, movement and meal timing influence its rhythm. Discover why when you do something can matter just as much as what you do.

Why You Can't Switch Off, with Chibs

A two-hour workshop on stress, burnout and the nervous system.

For a lot of us, the things that make us good at our jobs are the same things keeping us awake. We say yes when we mean no. We check it one more time. We do it ourselves because asking feels harder. None of that stops at bedtime.

This workshop looks at what a long stretch of stress does to the body, why rest can feel uncomfortable when we finally stop, and what to do about it. Part talk, part practice, part conversation. You'll leave with two kinds of tools: a few that settle your body in a couple of minutes, and a few slower ones that, held over months, lighten the load you're carrying in the first place.

Yoga nidra and guided deep rest meditations, with Chibs

Yoga nidra is a guided practice done lying down, where the body rests deeply while the mind stays lightly awake. It's what Chibs is best known for on YouTube, and on retreat you get it live.

Each day includes a session: body scans, slow breathing and guided relaxation, sometimes with Chibs's own music, sometimes with Stephanie's Himalayan singing bowls underneath. Some sessions are in the mid-afternoon, on purpose. Kate's advice is to practise deep rest during the day, well away from bedtime, so it becomes something your body knows how to do, and stops being one more thing to try at 2am. The evening sessions are shorter and quieter.

Sound, breath and guided meditation

Experience an opening evening of sound and meditation, further guided evening practices with Chibs.

Morning Qigong

Begin each full morning with Stephanie’s gentle movement practice, combining flowing sequences, breath and attention. Practise in different settings across the property, taking time to notice your body and the landscape around you.

Melukat Blessing

Melukat water blessing by the river gorge — opportunities to encounter the place and its living traditions alongside your retreat practice.

A full moon evening

On the evening of Vesak, we gather for meditation and a reflective full moon ceremony. A quiet invitation to pause, consider what matters, and make space for the days ahead.

Sunrise tea meditation

To mark International Tea Day, we welcome the morning with a special tea meditation. Feel the warmth of the cup, notice the fragrance, and savour the simple experience of being here as daylight arrives.

Sacred Water Temple Visit

This temple is one of Bali's secret gems and the spring at the temple is considered sacred, for it’s found at a meeting point of two holy rivers.

Blend Your Own Sleep Oil

Learn to use essential oils safely and blend your own evening oil. Enjoy it during the retreat, then take home a familiar scent to accompany your wind-down routine.

Evening self-care

Learn simple acupressure points traditionally used for disturbed sleep and anxiety, along with a short insomnia Qigong sequence, simple enough to do beside your bed at home.

Yoga, Breath & Meditation

A shared yoga and breathing practice with Kate complemented by a meditation session with Chibs.

Conversation and integration

A group Q&A with all three facilitators gives you time to connect the ideas, ask questions and consider what feels useful for your own life.

Complimentary massage

Enjoy a soothing massage to ease muscular tension and invite a sense of calm. Unwind and reconnect with your body, complementing the movement, learning and restorative practices throughout your stay.

Day 3 · Explore your daily rhythms

Welcome International Tea Day with sunrise tea meditation, followed by Qigong and breakfast. Visit a waterfall temple, explore how sleep is built during the day with Kate, and join Stephanie’s aromatherapy workshop. Evening acupressure, gentle Qigong and meditation round out the day.

Bring your questions to all three facilitators for an open Q&A. Gather for a farewell dinner at Pohon Jiwa before Chibs guides you into a final evening meditation.

Everything is optional. Some people come to every session. Some people skip one for a sleep in the afternoon sun. Both are the right way to do it.

Your Venue

Dwa Chandra sits on old royal land just outside Ubud, and for these five days it's ours alone. A private river gorge runs through the property, past three volcanic caves, 9th-century temple carvings and meditation caves that have been used for a thousand years. There's an open-sided bale looking out over the rice fields, a pavilion beside the waterfall, and quiet, air-conditioned suites to sleep in.

Beautifully designed accommodation and welcoming gathering spaces provide a setting for shared meals, thoughtful conversation and time to yourself. It's a place that does some of the work for you. The days are warm and bright, the nights are dark and quiet, and there's nowhere you need to be.

Chef Edi, formerly of Locavore, brings together Balinese culinary knowledge and international influences. Share relaxed meals throughout your stay, with dietary requirements accommodated by prior arrangement.

Sleep as the foundation

If you are the person who has tried the supplements, the trackers and the wind-down routines and still lies awake, frustrated and cycling through solutions without success, this retreat offers something more lasting: an evidence-based approach from a sleep specialist, drawing on principles from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia, alongside circadian science to provide practical tools that address the factors that can keep poor sleep stuck.

The healing capacity of sleep is profound. Sleep is an active biological process that supports brain function, emotional regulation, immune function, metabolic and cardiovascular health, and recovery. Healthy sleep is not simply another component of wellbeing; it supports many of the systems that allow us to function and recover well.

These are five days built on that foundation, so that what you learn here is something you can keep building on, with tools and insights that continue to support you long after you return home.

Working with your biology, not against it

When we do something can be just as important as what we do. You'll learn how light, movement, meals, temperature and other daily cues interact with your circadian system, and why timing matters when it comes to sleep, energy, mood and recovery.

Rather than trying to fix sleep at bedtime, you'll learn how to work with the biology that shapes it throughout the day. You won't only hear this, you'll live it for five days: morning light, daytime movement, early dinners, deep rest in the afternoon and dark, quiet nights.

Sleep is the foundation that allows the other pillars of wellbeing to stand. This retreat gives you the knowledge and practical tools to understand your sleep, work with your biology and build on that foundation long after you return home.

Reflections from Previous Retreats and Programmes

“Stephanie’s The Way of 5 Elements Retreat in Nozawaonsen was a truly unique and precious experience. Among a wonderful group of kind and beautiful souls, we dived into daily Qi Gong practice, learned about different wellness concepts from a holistic perspective, and explored Japanese traditions in various ways. I will never forget the sense of connection, kindness, and authenticity throughout the week. Stephanie flawlessly fulfills her many roles as a retreat facilitator, sharing her deep knowledge of Qi Gong, TCM, aromatherapy, acupressure, lifestyle medicine, and sound therapy, while ensuring the excursions are perfectly organized and bringing her passion and mindful energy to the group. Thank you so much for sharing your light with the world and for following your Ikigai."

Katrin Bonk

“Working with Kate has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. She has a rare mix of strong technical knowledge and practical, real-world advice from experience.

Kate lives and breathes the research & has a great way of sharing this in a way that is tailored to you. She truly listens and approaches every conversation with empathy. At the same time, she keeps things grounded and realistic with clear steps for improvement.

Kate’s approach to CBT-i was less rigid than the other sleep consultant I engaged with & looked more at wider trends of where I was heading with my sleep. She took the pressure away from the night-to-night metrics & allowed me to believe in my brain/body & that it would calibrate itself over a wider period of time. This really worked for me.

Her support has made a significant difference to my sleep & in turn my general ability to function to my best in all aspects of life – as a Husband, Dad, & business owner.

I couldn’t recommend her more.”

Ant Ward

"I now wake up feeling grateful every morning after falling asleep easily and enjoying a full nights sleep — a reality I never thought possible before working with Kate! I’ve struggled with falling asleep my entire life, often lying awake for 1-2 frustrating hours each night. Investing in Kate’s sleep coaching program was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I saw results within the first week, which gave me the motivation to keep going.

Kate’s kindness, thorough approach, and relatable guidance made all the difference. Her accountability and support helped me implement lasting changes that I wouldn’t have achieved on my own. This journey has truly transformed my life, and I can’t thank Kate enough for everything I’ve learned. I wholeheartedly recommend working with her to anyone struggling with sleep — it’s been a life-changing experience!"

Emily Gifford

"The Way of 5 Elements is much more than a retreat—it’s truly transformational! A safe space to connect with strangers who will become lifelong friends from all over the world, while offering a true sense of community and a feeling of belonging. You will have many healing experiences that help you connect with your true essence and empower you to learn invaluable skills that make life easier. Replenish your energy with amazing local food from the region, immerse yourself in personal growth, and enjoy so much more—all of this while supporting the local community and all delicately guided by Stephanie with daily Qigong practice in the most beautiful of settings. It’s a week-long escape—or a sense of coming home—where all of your senses are awakened, leaving you feeling renewed, inspired, and deeply connected: to nature, to others, and, most importantly, to yourself."

Hema Patel

"I have loved Chibs meditations for years. But they can't hold a candle to having the opportunity to be coached live by him weekly. The lessons are so wonderful for someone like me who can carry the world on her shoulders and sometimes forget to take time for herself."

Sidra Gaines, Tired & Wired member

"For a first time “retreater” and complete newbie to Qi Gong (or any of the wellness practices offered) my cup was 100% filled by this experience. The mindful practice of Qi Gong and the many associated sessions was expertly instructed and coordinated by Stephanie, and the people participating made the retreat a truly treasured experience. For anyone stumbling across this opportunity by Googling (like me) and worried about taking a leap of faith… rest assured… Stephanie’s engagement quickly allayed any concerns. Come with an open heart, as everyone did. We all left nourished by the experience. For those looking for a week of mindful and nourishing experiences… just do it. Go with an open heart and be willing to share and receive. There was so much good energy it was palpable."

Andre Roberts

"Chibs, you have changed my life. I suffered with chronic insomnia for more than 20 years. I now sleep reliably for 7 hours. I recommend your channel to everyone struggling with insomnia. Thank you ever so much!"

YouTube Listener

"The retreat was just perfect for really tuning inwards. Since then I’m feeling much more balanced, more present and more conscious. Qigong has definitely changed my life and I see a very clear steady improvement since I’m doing my little five element exercises every morning. I started to implement some little things we talked about and it really improved my quality of life and well-being. I’m super grateful to Stephanie due to all this. One way or another Stephanie’s retreat will deeply impact your life and touch your heart. I’m sure it will put you on the right track by giving you the tools you need. Maybe it will not happen immediately but eventually you’ll incorporate all the knowledge and wisdom she is sharing in such an amazing and loving way and it will for sure change your life to a better!"

Judit Pach

After struggling with insomnia for years, I genuinely thought this was just something I’d have to live with for the rest of my life. I had tried everything, and to be honest, when someone recommended Kate, I wasn’t sure it would work. But after just three nights, I slept seven hours straight – something I hadn’t done in years. Now, two weeks in, I’ve had more restful sleep than I ever thought possible. I’m finally enjoying my evenings again without that familiar dread of going to bed. Working with Kate has been truly life-changing.

Janie Newlands

"In an effort to improve my sleep lately, I had a sleep study and got a CPAP machine, purchased a new mattress, pillows and sheets, but the best thing I have found is you. Your voice is so comforting and you know just what to say."

YouTube Listener

"Sir, you are a godsend! I've dealt with insomnia on and off for as long as I can remember, but since hitting perimenopause it had become almost unbearable. I listen to you every night and I'm out like the proverbial light within minutes. I cannot thank you enough!"

YouTube Listener

"Working with Kate has been truly life changing. Everything she teaches makes so much sense, and all really easy things to do that end up making a big difference. I finally found the tools and knowledge to improve my sleep after struggling for far too long."

Susan Vaz

"This retreat combines both practical elements for our daily lives together with working emotionally on healing within. It was an absolutely beautiful retreat meeting people who came together to care and support, learning new things and experiencing the most beautiful healing nature I have ever seen. The energy carries after it's over back into our lives and I cannot be more grateful for the self worth, confidence, courage and flow I am watching now unfold after the retreat. Steph is a beautiful, caring soul who has been through so much, learning from her experiences are so enriching and I just feel so blessed to have been able to make it to this retreat!"

Jessi Chia

"Anyone who has suffered a period of insomnia knows how debilitating it can be – and getting back to good sleep can be a challenging journey. Kate has been a huge help in my sleep journey. Her approach is rooted in science and the knowledge she imparted truly helped me understand what was going on. She’s also assisted with simple but effective tools and techniques that have helped me to get my sleep back on track. I’d recommend Kate to anyone facing sleep challenges, because you can’t put a price on a good night’s sleep!"

Frequently asked questions

You've got questions. We've got answers.

Do I need to have insomnia to join?

No. You may be experiencing disrupted sleep, finding it difficult to switch off, or simply wanting to understand how to rest better. The programme combines sleep education with practical experiences you can bring into everyday life.

Is this retreat suitable for women in perimenopause or menopause?

You’re very welcome. If changes in your sleep have left you feeling frustrated or depleted, the retreat offers space to explore your sleep patterns, daily rhythms and relationship with rest. The programme is open to all genders and is not a dedicated menopause treatment programme.

Do I need experience in Qigong, yoga or meditation?

No previous experience is needed. Your teachers will guide you through the practices, with an emphasis on curiosity and working within your comfort. Please let us know about any physical limitations or access needs before booking.

Can I come on my own?

Absolutely. You’re welcome to join independently, with a friend or with a partner. Shared meals, workshops and group experiences offer opportunities to connect, alongside time to enjoy your own company.

How many people will be on the retreat?

Places are limited to 20 guests, so the group stays small enough for everyone to bring their own sleep questions to the sessions and the Q&A. We'll also have Dwa Chandra to ourselves for the five days.

How do I get there from the airport?

Fly into I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar (DPS). Dwa Chandra is in Pejeng village, about 15 minutes' drive from the centre of Ubud and 75 to 90 minutes from the airport, depending on traffic. Return airport transfers are included, and will be shared at set times. Details will be shared after your booking is confirmed. If you'd like to arrive a day or two early or stay on afterwards, let us know and we'll suggest places to stay nearby.

How much walking is there, and are there many steps?

Dwa Chandra sits on three hectares of old royal land above a river gorge, so expect garden paths, steps between the suites and the shared spaces, and a walk down to the river for the Melukat water blessing. The waterfall temple morning means walking along the river and over rocks, and you'll get wet. If you have any mobility concerns, please tell us before you book and we'll talk you through which rooms and sessions will suit you best.

Is there an early bird price?

Yes. The first 10 places are USD [700] off per person with the code SLEEP at checkout. After that, places are at the standard price.

Can I book a shared room without bringing someone?

Yes. Book a twin-share place in one of the five suites with two beds (Bungalow, Poolview, Skylight, River or Mural) and we'll pair you with another solo guest.

Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

Please tell us about allergies and dietary requirements upon booking so we can cater to your needs. Meals are prepared with care, and we want you to feel comfortable and well looked after throughout your stay.

When should I arrive and depart?

The retreat runs from 19–23 May 2027. The planned schedule begins with check-in from 3 p.m. on 19 May and finishes with check-out at 11 a.m. on 23 May, following morning practice, breakfast and our closing circle. Please arrange your flights accordingly.

What deposit is required to secure my place?

A non-refundable deposit of A$1,000 per person secures your place and is credited towards your total retreat price. Your booking confirmation will outline the remaining payment schedule.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Please notify us in writing as soon as possible. Refunds are calculated according to when we receive your cancellation:

  • 120 days or more before the retreat: Payments received will be refunded, less the A$1,000 deposit.

  • 60–119 days before the retreat: Your A$1,000 deposit remains non-refundable. We will refund 50% of any additional retreat payments you have made.

  • Fewer than 60 days before the retreat: No refund is available.

The deposit is non-refundable in all guest cancellation cases. We recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation for your circumstances.

What happens if the organisers cancel the retreat?

If we cancel the retreat, you will receive a full refund of all retreat payments made to us, including your A$1,000 deposit. Flights, visas, insurance and other independently arranged expenses are not included in this refund.
